Inorganic Sorbents for Wastewater Treatment from Radioactive Contaminants

چکیده

The article presents the distribution coefficient (Kd) values of 137Cs and 90Sr tracer radionuclides in solutions sodium calcium salts for a wide range commercially available inorganic sorbents: natural synthetic aluminosilicates, manganese, titanium zirconium oxyhydrates, phosphates, titanosilicates alkali metals, ferrocyanides transition metals. results were obtained using standard technique developed by authors evaluating efficiency various sorption materials towards cesium strontium radionuclides. It was shown that bentonite clays zeolites are best decontaminating low-salt water from radionuclides, ferrocyanide sorbents choice high-salt-bearing solutions. manganese (III, IV) oxyhydrate-based MDM sorbent is most effective removing water; seawater, barium silicate-based SRM-Sr first-in-class. Results study provide possibility making reasonable treatment technogenic aqueous waste contaminated with

Sulfate Radical Technologies as Tertiary Treatment for the Removal of Emerging Contaminants from Wastewater

Water scarcity and water pollution is a worldwide problem and has driven research into eco-friendly and low-energy cost efficient remediation. The reuse of wastewater for non-potable purpose after proper treatment is the only sustainable solution to the problem. Advanced oxidation processes (AOP) based on the in-situ generation of hydroxyl radicals have been intensively investigated for this pu...

High-performance, superparamagnetic, nanoparticle-based heavy metal sorbents for removal of contaminants from natural waters.

We describe the synthesis and characterization of high-performance, superparamagnetic, iron oxide nanoparticle-based, heavy metal sorbents, which demonstrate excellent affinity for the separation of heavy metals in contaminated water systems (i.e., spiked Columbia River water). The magnetic nanoparticle sorbents were prepared from an easy-to-synthesize iron oxide precursor, followed by a simple...

Phosphate removal by mineral-based sorbents used in filters for small-scale wastewater treatment.

The mineral-based sorbents Filtra P, Polonite, natural wollastonite and water-cooled blast furnace slag (WCBFS) were studied in terms of their PO(4) removal performance. Results from a long-term column experiment showed that both Filtra P and Polonite removed >95% of PO(4) from the applied synthetic solution, and that the used filter materials had accumulated several (1.9-19) g kg(-1)P. Phospho...

In situ long-term monitoring system for radioactive contaminants.

A long-term in situ subsurface instrument for monitoring radioactive contaminant plumes, as an alternative to soil analysis, is described. A portable, laser-based reader optically stimulates luminescence from sensors, each containing an Al2O3:C dosemeter. The sensors, designed for placement at various subsurface locations around a waste site, are allowed to accumulate dose for a predetermined t...
